organic cotton

Asantii only uses certified cotton (GOTS – Global Organic Textile Standard) in our collection. Production of organic cotton avoids the use of highly toxic substances, instead allowing farmers to make the most of natural systems to grow their crops. This means water use is reduced and soil health is improved.

Organic cotton also helps farmers feed their families. To maintain balance on their farms, cotton crops are often grown alongside other crops, which not only keeps soil healthy, but encourages wildlife. These crops provide the farming families and their communities with more abundant and stable food supplies.

linen

Not only is linen one of the most robust natural fibres available, lasting up to 30 years if washed and cared for correctly, it’s one of the greenest and most sustainable fibres available.

Flax, its source plant, can grow in poor-quality soil with less water and no fertilizer required to cultivate. It also boasts zero-waste properties as all parts of the plant can be utilised for other purposes.

As a finished product, linen is entirely biodegradable, with a 100% linen garment taking only 2 weeks to biodegrade in soil.

certified viscose

The viscose fibres used in our collection are FSC Certified which is viscose produced in responsibly managed forests. Environmental protection & engaging communities are some of the key principles of FSC products. Ensuring the protection of water quality and loss of natural forest cover, prohibiting the use of highly hazardous chemicals, and engaging with local communities to protect the rights of Indigenous people are some of the ways forests are
protected for future generations.

recycled polyester

Polyester accounts for half of the fibres used in the textile and apparel industry so using a recycled alternative has a huge effect on the environment. With a smaller carbon footprint, the manufacturing of recycled polyester generates 79% less carbon emissions compared to its virgin counterparts, massively reducing the dependency on fossil fuels.

Another benefit to using the recycled fibre is helping to reduce the wastage that’s often associated with the fashion industry which sees 48 million metric tonnes of clothes disposed annually. Made by melting and re-spinning existing plastic, recycled polyester is an intuitive way to find value in waste.
